Blithe Spirit
Written by Noel Coward
Directed by Brian Hoyle

Blithe Spirit is a comic play written by Noël Coward. The novelist, Charles Condomine, and his wife live comfortably in the country. In order to research his next book, Charles has invited two friends, Dr and Mrs Bradman, to take part in a séance conducted by Madame Arcarti, an eccentric medium who lives in the village. They all dine together, the four cynical friends sharing complete disbelief in the proceedings to come and expecting to enjoy a jolly evening of fun and laughter. Mr & Mrs Condomine are totally unprepared for what happens later that evening... The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his annoying and temperamental first wife, Elvira, following the séance. Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles's marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see or hear the ghost.
